Stephanie teaches voice and ear training in New York City. She has studied the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, and Pilates, and she takes a holistic, integrated approach to teaching voice. Stephanie has taught students between the ages of 17 and 60, in styles ranging from choral classical to musical theater, pop, R&B, and jazz. Before Stephanie decided to focus on classical music, she had sung gospel, musical theater, and jazz, and she has also written several acoustic R&B songs for guitar and voice. Consequently, she is familiar with the stylistic and technical differences between the various genres and knows that a teacher's approach must be tailored to the needs and skills of each individual student. Stephanie studies with distinguished teacher Dr. Sandra Kungle, who in turn studied with famed Juilliard pedagogue Oren Brown.
Stephanie studied ear training with acclaimed harpist, pianist, and ear training specialist Judith Ross. Ms. Ross studied in Fontainebleu, France with the legendary Nadia Boulanger, who taught Bernstein, Copland, Barenboim, Piazzolla, Glass, Rorem, and many others. As part of her degree at the Longy Conservatory, Stephanie also studied Dalcroze Eurythmics and incorporates elements of Dalcroze's work into her ear training. TESTIMONIALS- VOICE LESSONS
Stephanie provided a relaxed atmosphere, focused one-on-one attention, and a clarity that made learning how to sing easier than I ever expected it to be. Lessons with Stephanie are relaxed, fun, and focused - she’s right there in my corner with me - I really love that!
Gabriella Callender, singer-songwriter, New York City
Stephanie has an ability to make you immediately feel at ease. Any nervousness I might have felt going in disappeared within the first ten minutes of the lesson. For me this was key, because once I started singing, I couldn’t help but feel freer vocally. Stephanie also breaks down vocal exercises and songs in a way that’s easy to follow. We’ve worked on songs that I never would have attempted to try on my own. Everything about her approach to teaching is enjoyable, and the end result speaks for itself.
Jon Thomas, voice-over artist, New York City
I began taking lessons with Stephanie as a complete beginner. I thought that some people were born naturally with the ability to sing, and was quite skeptical that I would ever be able to do it. Stephanie's intelligence and extensive technical knowledge of music and voice is an incredible resource. I am so grateful for her compassionate and positive lessons, and can’t believe I am actually learning to sing!
Bella Foster, artist, New York City
Although I’ve sung with several choirs over the past 10 years, I really wanted to explore my individual solo voice thru voice lessons with Stephanie. Through several directed warm up exercises, I have been able to be more comfortable in my voice and explore new singing styles. Her patience, expertise, and guidance has led to more confident performances and given me the opportuntity to audition for solos when offered.
Jim Tice, bass, Coro Allegro, Boston, MA
Taking voice lessons from Stephanie exceeded my expectations of my capabilities. I have had music and vocal lessons from several good teachers. Stephanie's intelligence and warmth combined with her passion for excellence and spirit of fun make her the best of them by far. I always looked forward to my lessons, every week I learned so much about reading music, singing, listening and breathing. These skills improved my choral singing ability and enjoyment exponentially. But learning from Stephanie gave me more than technical improvement, she has a wonderful ability to develop her students' confidence along with their vocal technique. Also, to be able to hear her sing just one line of music is worth the entire lesson's cost-really! I count myself very fortunate to have had the chance to learn from her, and would (and have) recommend her to vocal students of all levels.
Sarah Richards, soprano, Arlington Street Church Choir, Boston, MA
Stephanie has been a god-send. She has inspired me to reach high notes and go places with my voice that I never knew existed. She’s been teaching me the importance of breathing…Through the work I’m doing with Stephanie, I have come to have a greater appreciation for ASC’s awesome choir...

TESTIMONIALS- EAR TRAINING
In April 2005, Stephanie McGuire, a colleague of mine at the Longy Conservatory, graciously spent her time helping me learn a difficult section of music. I was having trouble hearing my entrance at a particular spot in Puccini’s Il Tabarro. Stephanie took me aside and helped me to hear the part more clearly. I am happy to say that when it was show time, I did not miss my entrance thanks to Stephanie’s help. She is very patient and clear in her teaching. Anyone that studies with her is lucky to have her as a mentor.
Tracy Abbate, soprano and music teacher, Grace Webb School, Hartford, CT
